Wellbeing
At our school, student wellbeing and learning go hand in hand. We want every student to feel safe, included and ready to learn. Whether your child needs help with their mental, emotional, social or physical wellbeing, we are here to help them thrive at school and in daily life.
How we support student wellbeing
Supporting each student’s mental, emotional, social and physical wellbeing is part of everyday school life.
We do this through:
- teachers who help students feel welcome and included
- access to school counsellors, school psychologists and specialist staff
- programs that support health, social skills, attendance and positive behaviour
- clear expectations for behaviour and respectful relationships
- staff who get to know each child and work closely with families
- developing health care plans for students
- open communication about wellbeing and support.

Cultural Groups
Our Cultural Groups are held weekly for Indigenous boys and girls in years 5 and 6. The main focus of the groups are to have regular wellbeing check-ins with the students and build positive relationships. During these catch ups the students get the chance to explore their cultural identity and connections to Aboriginal Heritage through engaging in creative cultural activities. Students are given the chance to express themselves through art, song, storytelling and dance. The boys are also taught to play the didgeridoo. Throughout these sessions the students gain confidence, resilience, social skills and leadership skills with passed down knowledge from Elders and family when possible.
School Counselling
Queanbeyan South Public School offers free, confidential counselling to our students.
Counselling for students can be beneficial in many ways including
- support for students who are worrying about school work, friend groups, behaviour and hormonal changes
- helping parents make decisions about schooling and education
- linking parents and carers with other wellbeing agencies to gain extra support for students
