High potential and gifted education
Some students learn faster and more easily than others. These students may shine in creativity, thinking, leadership or sport.
At our school, we recognise and nurture these strengths early. We support advanced learners with great lessons and activities to help them grow and thrive.
What is high potential and gifted education?
High Potential and Gifted Education (HPGE) is how our school supports students with advanced learning needs.
We do this through:
- effective teaching strategies like enrichment, extension and acceleration
- tailored support during lessons that stretch, challenge and inspire
- access to a wide range of opportunities both within and beyond our school.
Our high potential and gifted education opportunities
Our students engage with HPGE education in the classroom, in our school, and across NSW.
High Potential and Gifted Education (HPGE) is highly integrated within our classrooms at Queanbeyan South Public School. Our teachers take pride and nurture our HPGE students and allow them to grow whether this be through extracurricular activities, STEM programs, physical education or encouraging them to join clubs we have at our school.
The NSW Department of Education's HPGE policy outlines the importance of supporting giftedness across four essential domains, which is what Queanbeyan South Staff pride themselves on doing.
These domains include;
- Creative domain; The creative domain refers to natural abilities in imagination, invention and originality
- Intellectual domain; The intellectual domain refers to natural abilities in processing, understanding, reasoning, and the transfer of learning
- Physical domain; The Physical domain refers to natural abilities in muscular movement and motor control
- Social-Emotional domain; The Social-emotional domain refers to natural abilities in self-management and relating to and interacting with others
Queanbeyan South Public School Students are given and supported with the chances to participate in a wide ranges of HPGE programs that are state wide. These all fit into the domains highlighted by The NSW Department of Education, and give the students opportunities to expand their knowledge and experience in certain programs.
- Students participating in school carnivals and gala days are able to progress through selections and if selected are bale to represent not only their school but their district, region and even their state.
- The Physical domain isn't the only domain this opportunity arises in, students also have this opportunity through Creative, Intellectual and Social-Emotional domains.
